Gadag: BJP MP and former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has demanded a high-level investigation into illegal mining cases in Karnataka, following serious revelations made by Minister H K Patil.
Speaking to reporters in Gadag, Bommai pointed out that Patil had recently said that 92% of registered mining-related cases remain unresolved. “What response will the Chief Minister give to Patil’s serious concern?” Bommai asked.
He called for the formation of a special court to investigate the matter thoroughly. “Many cases are already registered and are under the CBI and SIT. However, there are serious allegations against SIT officials themselves, including against its chief. Let us see how the investigation proceeds,” he said.
Turning his attention to the previous lease renewals, Bommai raised questions about the government’s role before 2018. “Minister Patil is now talking about pre-2017-18 cases. But during Siddaramaiah’s tenure as CM, the Union government had already decided to implement e-auction for mining. Before that law was enforced, several mining leases were renewed in Karnataka. Were those renewals done in favour of certain individuals? Will Patil now investigate that?” Bommai challenged.
Reacting to the viral audio of B R Patil allegedly saying “Give money, get a house”, Bommai said, “B R Patil has raised many issues. Unfortunately, no one in Congress respects those who speak out against corruption.”
