A previously unseen police bodycam video from 2022 has resurfaced on social media, showing Tyler Robinson , now 22, in an encounter with police following a minor car accident in St George, Utah.
Many users expressed shock at the footage, questioning whether he is the same person who, three years later, killed conservative leader Charlie Kirk .
"This is Tyler Robinson in 2022 when he was 19 years old. He got into a fender bender in St George, Utah. Does this sound like a gay, radicalized, trans activist?" a social media post read.
The video shows the then-19-year-old Robinson wearing a grey shirt, black sunglasses and a grey hat, similar to what he reportedly wore while fleeing after allegedly killing Kirk.
Robinson is seen calmly explaining to officers how he collided with another vehicle. “As I was coming through, he turned in, and I T-boned into the side of him,” he said.
He was driving a silver Audi with his brother in the passenger seat; all involved, including the other driver, walked away uninjured, according to New York Post.
He joked with police about topping off his car’s oil just before leaving home. His mother also appears in the footage, arriving at the scene with insurance forms. No citations were issued for the accident.
Robinson is now accused of killing 31-year-old Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, during a public appearance at Utah Valley University in Orem on September 10.
Prosecutors say he fired a fatal shot to Kirk’s neck while the activist addressed a crowd under a pop-up tent, sparking a nationwide manhunt. Grainy images released by the FBI showed a man wearing dark clothing, sunglasses, and a hat resembling Robinson’s appearance in the 2022 footage.
According to court documents, Robinson, described by prosecutors as radicalized online and holding “leftist ideology,” was arrested 33 hours later after being turned in by his father. A text conversation revealed in the indictment shows Robinson telling his partner that he had been planning the attack for “a bit over a week.”
Robinson faces charges including aggravated murder and could face the death penalty under Utah law, a punishment publicly supported by President Donald Trump , a close associate of Kirk. Utah remains one of five states that permit execution by firing squad.
