Akshay Kumar has long been celebrated as one of the most versatile stars of Bollywood, known for blending action, comedy, and charisma with ease. From Hera Pheri to Rowdy Rathore, his larger-than-life roles have made him a household name. While he continues to explore new projects like Welcome To The Jungle, one of his most iconic characters — Vikrant Singh Rathore — may soon return to the big screen but without him.
Reports suggest that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who produced the 2012 blockbuster Rowdy Rathore, is gearing up for a sequel. The original film, directed by Prabhu Deva and co-starring Sonakshi Sinha, was a Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Vikramarkudu. It became a box office sensation, earning over ₹200 crore and winning over audiences with its blend of humour, action and Akshay Kumar’s energetic performance.
According to a leading publication, Bhansali Studios is now developing Rowdy Rathore 2 as part of a larger plan to turn it into a franchise. Sources close to the production revealed that the sequel is among the studio’s biggest upcoming ventures, aiming for a wider national appeal. While the project is still in its early stages, the team reportedly wants a major pan-India star to take on the lead role, stepping into the cop avatar once portrayed by Akshay Kumar.
Though the casting has not yet been finalised, insiders claim that the sequel will carry forward the essence of the original while giving it a larger, more contemporary scale. However, no official confirmation has been made by Bhansali Productions regarding the film’s development or cast.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar continues his own franchise journey with Welcome To The Jungle, the third installment in the popular Welcome series. The earlier films, especially the 2007 Welcome featuring Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal and Mallika Sherawat, achieved cult status for their humour and memorable characters. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the official release date of Welcome 3, even as excitement builds over who will wear the cop uniform next in Rowdy Rathore 2.
