Virgil van Dijk drops teasing Liverpool transfer hint as Alexander Isak rocks Newcastle

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk has suggested that the club's summer transfer activity is not yet over. The Reds have already spent a whopping £265million on seven new players, including the recent acquisition of Hugo Ekitike, but still have funds available to bolster Arne Slot's squad further.

Ekitike, who cost Liverpool £69m plus an additional £10m in potential add-ons from Eintracht Frankfurt, is the latest addition to the reigning Premier League champions' squad. He joins Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pesci and Freddie Woodman, all of whom have signed this summer, while Giorgi Mamardashvili has also finally arrived from Valencia.

The Reds' significant recruitment drive this summer comes after a quiet transfer window the previous year. With Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott potentially on their way out, there could still be room for a marquee signing, such as Newcastle's Alexander Isak.

Liverpool made an enquiry about Isak last week before finalising the deal for Ekitike. The Swedish forward has since told Newcastle he wishes to consider his options and was notably absent from the Magpies' pre-season tour amid rumours he could be sold if their £125m asking price is met.

Speaking during Liverpool's pre-season tour in Hong Kong following Ekitike's arrival, Van Dijk hinted the club may not be finished in the transfer market yet.

When questioned about how the Reds can secure the Premier League title once more, he told the Anfield Wrap: "This season, we all start from scratch. I think everyone has tried to improve their teams - and we as well, I think we've done great additions to the team so far.

"Let's see what happens for the rest of the transfer window. But I think it's all down to hard work, showing our quality and consistency and we all know how difficult that is. So we will focus on ourselves and the hard work is obviously already going - we work so hard in training, double sessions in the heat and humidity here."

Discussing the new signings, the Liverpool skipper continued: "Coming to Liverpool, they will definitely have the quality to play for Liverpool. For me, it's very important as well how you settle in the group and how you fit into the squad that we have, and I think they did perfectly well.

"All of them. We don't speak about Armin - a young goalie who just came out of nowhere - has settled in pretty well. Obviously Freddie, Giorgi, Flo, Jeremie Frimpong. Hugo came today of course. Everyone has to work hard and we're all in this together, that's the main thing. We have to fight for everything that's ahead of us."

Andy Robertson has also expressed his admiration for the new recruits. Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "The lads already have settled in really well. Obviously Hugo has just come in so we'll have our first dinner with him tonight.

"But Jeremie, Milos, Gio, Flo have all really settled in quite quickly and it's as if they've been here for months now, which is pleasing. It's just up to them to then understand the standards of playing with Liverpool, and I think they're getting to grips with that already."
