So the nasty little scrote who murdered 12-year-old Ava White at a Christmas lights turn on over a petty row in November 2021 has been named and pictured for the first time after he turned 18 in prison. Harry Gilbertson, then 14, stabbed the schoolgirl in the neck after an argument over a Snapchat video before running away to leave her bleeding to death on the pavement in Liverpool city centre.
Gilbertson was convicted of Ava's murder and locked up for a minimum of 13 years - but the judge in their wisdom refused calls for him to be identified, saying the risk to his family, in particular his younger siblings, was too great. Now the last thing I want is for any innocent to suffer but... as ever, this is the justice system blindly putting the rights of the guilty before those of the victims. Far too often, judges and lawyers are tip-toeing around trying not to upset the scumbags who make our lives a misery.
While defendants between the ages of 10 and 17 appearing before the criminal courts are automatically the subject of reporting restrictions, the courts can lift them in the interests of transparency. Under the principles of open justice, judges should take account of the feelings of the victim's family that the defendant be publicly named and the wider community good that may be served. But generally, they don't.
Ava's mother, Leeann White, 42, told the Mail: "It's important the public know who he is. The public know everything about Ava - her name was splashed everywhere when she died."
She has asked why he should be protected, and she's bang-on. He was carrying a knife, he killed an innocent girl and he has, she says, never shown a shred of remorse. And to add insult to injury, despite being locked up, he's been able to post images of himself on Snapchat! So it's only right he is identified now.
Better late than never.
But it's time the law stopped pandering to the thugs and killers who are making our streets no-go zones for decent, ordinary people in so many parts of this once-great country.

A mega production of Evita, starring woke warrior Rachel Zegler as Eva Peron, has been hit with trigger warnings for "loud music and sudden noises". Audiences are also warned they could be upset by strobe lighting, flashing lights and haze.
Zegler, as readers may recall, was at the centre of Disney's slow-motion car crash remake of Snow White which went down like a proverbial pile of cat sick among critics and fans - taking just £148million at the box office from a budget of £200million.
So I suppose we shouldn't be surprised by this patronising guff. What happened to the pleasure of being surprised? I weep for theatre goers, if not Argentina!

It's been another tough week, I'm sorry to say. My condition coupled with the warm weather has just knocked me out. Talk about being asleep on the job! Nonetheless, I feel very lucky to have been able to share my thoughts with you today.
So huge thanks all for your understanding, and to everyone who has sent kind wishes and comments my way. Every single one is appreciated by myself and Lady W.

Chinese PHD student Zhenhao Zou, 28, - who drugged and raped 10 women, and potentially dozens more - asked to be chemically castrated in an attempt to avoid going to prison for life. Here's a suggestion, why not chemically castrate him AND send him to prison forever? Just saying.
Pro-Palestine morons broke into RAF Brize Norton and sprayed red paint into aircraft engines after zooming across the runway on electric scooters. How do we know this? They helpfully posted video of their vandalism on the internet, having infiltrated and then escaped the high-security base scot-free. Heads must roll over this shocking break of security.
Luckily, they were just idiots, imagine if they had been terrorists?
That said, everyone should condemn Palestine Action. These aircraft, giant air-to-air refuelling tankers, are vital for protecting our national interest and protecting others less able to defend themselves. Vandalising them could even cost lives. They must be tracked down, prosecuted as hard as the law allows it, and jailed!

It's shocking how many media organisations - not the Express - referred to trans former MP Jamie Wallis, who now goes by the name Katie, as a woman after he pleaded guilty to harassing his ex-wife. The former Tory MP made history after coming out as trans in 2022, and now holds another record as the first transgender former member of parliament to plead guilty to a crime. Marvellous to see people breaking down barriers like this.
But fellow journalists, why are we referring to Wallis as a woman? Yes, be respectful, if he wants to be called Katie, that's fine, but especially after the Supreme Court's decision, we simply shouldn't be pandering to the pronoun Taliban anymore.

I am delighted the Government has finally done a U-turn and announced a national inquiry into Pakistani-heritage rape gangs. But when is the PM going to apologise for accusing those people who have spent, in some cases years, campaigning for an inquiry of "jumping on a far-right bandwagon"? I'd guess anywhere between never and, er, never...
Dame Louise Casey, whose even-handed, utterly shocking report into the scandal has finally spurred the PM and ministers into acting deserves our praise and thanks. She is the antidote to the Whitehall culture of cover-ups and obfuscation that reigns. Now can we get a report from Dame Louise into HS2, civil servants working from home, the hardline pro-trans-takeover of officialdom... the list continues!
