Jurgen Klopp has expressed his admiration for Liverpool's acquisition of German international Florian Wirtz. The former Reds manager, who departed in 2024 and now serves as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer, maintains close ties with the club and was present at Anfield for their 20th league title celebration.
Klopp, an honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation, appears to be keeping a close eye on Liverpool's transfer dealings. When asked about Wirtz's signing, confirmed on Friday, he praised the move.
The Reds secured the 22 year old playmaker from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100m, fending off interest from top European clubs, including Bayern Munich.
As a former Premier League-winning manager, Klopp understands the challenges of strengthening a title-winning squad. However, he believes Wirtz will be a valuable addition, offering a glowing endorsement of the signing.
"This is going to be absolutely fantastic. I'm sure of it," Klopp told RTL/ntv.
"It's very hard to strengthen a team when you're champions. But Liverpool have managed it. They've signed an exceptional talent in Florian Wirtz. I'm looking forward to seeing it. It's going to be great."
Wirtz inked a five-year contract with Liverpool, becoming their second summer signing at the club's AXA Training Centre on Friday.
He joins ex-Leverkusen colleague Jeremie Frimpong in the new arrivals, while Bournemouth's left-back Milos Kerkez seems to be nearing a move to Merseyside.
The focus will then turn to departures before Richard Hughes considers any additional squad enhancements. A few players, including Jarell Quansah, Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa are among those facing uncertain futures at the club and could reportedly be on the move in the forthcoming weeks.
