GB News star erupts over doctored Trump speech as fans demand 'defund the BBC'

A GB News star has urged the BBC to provide an explanation after a whistleblower accused the broadcaster of editing a Donald Trump speech to make it seem as though he was inciting the Capitol Hill riots in the run-up to last year's election. The public service broadcaster included the edited clip in a Panorama programme released just days before Americans went to the polls, according to The Telegraph. It depicted Trump telling supporters he would go with them to the Capitol on January 6, 2021, to "fight like hell".

The altered footage "completely misled" viewers, the report stated. Speaking to Martin Daubney, GB News Senior Political Commentator Nigel Nelson described the scandal as "absolutely appalling". He continued: "That's why we need the explanation from the BBC. There may not be an explanation. It may well be they went ahead to do all the things that have just been outlined.

"The people to look at this are the Commons, Culture, Media, Sport committee. They should look into the investigation, launch a report, call the BBC, BBC senior executives including Tim Davie as witnesses so if the BBC won't voluntarily give us an explanation, the MPs will get one."

Daubney said: "If Donald Trump not only looks at this and decides it's fake news media, which it is, it amplifies things that are damaging to him and complimentary towards his opponents. It went out the week before the presidential election, it's incredible it's only come to light now. It could have influenced how people voted. A lot of Americans live in Britain and watch the BBC. It was broadcast, we think, on the world service platform on iPlayer."

He added: "I put it to you. Donald Trump could sue the BBC into oblivion."

Viewers were outraged by the news as they raced to social media to call for the BBC to be defunded.

"The BBC should be defunded asap. Not fit for purpose, far to biased," claimed one viewer as a second fumed: "Never trusted the BBC's reporting before but they really have hit a new low even for them. 'BBC Verify'? What a joke."

A third echoed: "Well, after the latest account of the BBC's duplicity re Trump and Hamas, I hope the President bans them from the White House. Even tonight,BBC1 is running a Panorama hit piece on the President's tech supporters. The BBC needs to be defunded, now."

Another furious viewer demanded: "F**k the BBC, end the TV licence and remove their funding."

A fifth echoed: "Surely it is time now to defund the BBC."

A BBC spokesperson said: "While we don't comment on leaked documents, when the BBC receives feedback it takes it seriously and considers it carefully. Michael Prescott is a former adviser to a board committee where differing views and opinions of our coverage are routinely discussed and debated."
