Chelsea will not be keeping the original Club World Cup trophy after their victory against PSG, says Donald Trump, who revealed that the trophy would remain at the White House. The Blues were triumphant with an unlikely 3-0 win in New Jersey on Sunday.

Enzo Maresca's squad were dominant as they faced off against the Champions League winners at MetLife Stadium. Cole Palmer scored twice within the first 30 minutes and Joao Pedro added a third before half-time, resulting in a final score of 3-0. However, the post-match celebrations and trophy presentation were overshadowed by controversy. Some of the victorious players were puzzled by the extended presence of the US president, who made some revealing comments about the Club World Cup trophy after the final.

Trump joined FIFA president Gianni Infantino on the pitch to present medals and awards to Chelsea's team following their win over the French champions.

Once the celebrations had died down, Trump spoke to DAZN and revealed that during a conversation with Infantino, it was decided that the original Club World Cup trophy would stay in the Oval Office.

"[FIFA] is doing fantastically well for [football in America], it's a growing sport, it is a great sport," Trump began. "They said: 'Could you hold this trophy for a little while?'

"We put it in the Oval Office and then I said: 'When are you going to pick up the trophy?' And he [Infantino] said: 'We're never going to pick it up, you can have it forever in the Oval Office.' And they actually made a new one, but right now [the original] is in the Oval."

During the medal ceremony after the match, Trump was on stage but did not join FIFA President Infantino in exiting when the trophy was lifted. Instead, Trump lingered awkwardly on stage among the jubilant Chelsea players, who appeared bemused by his presence and had to celebrate with him in their midst.

Chelsea captain Reece James, after lifting the trophy, shared his brief interaction with Trump, saying: "To be honest, it was quite loud. I couldn't hear too much. He just congratulated me and the team for lifting the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment."

Final hero Palmer commented on Trump's unexpected presence during the celebration, too, as he admitted: "I knew he was going to be here, but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yeah."

Levi Colwill also revealed there was a mix-up regarding Trump's planned departure from the stage, adding: "They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage, and I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay."
