Srinagar: A terrorist has been killed and three Army personnel received injuries in a fierce gunbattle that is underway between terrorists and security forces in the Guddar forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to officials, the encounter started after suspicious movement was spotted in the forest. The terrorists opened fire on being spotted and the security forces retaliated.
The Army, CRPF and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police are engaged in the operation, officials said.
The operation began after the Jammu and Kashmir Police provided specific intelligence, following which a joint search was launched by the Indian Army, SOG and CRPF.
“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries. Operation is in progress,” the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said in a post on X.
It is being suspected that there are at least 2-3 terrorists still holed up in the area. Additional forces have been deployed, and an encounter remains underway.
