Married At First Sight star Laura Vaughan has been left heartbroken after the sudden death of her stepfather, which followed the tragic death of her biological father. Laura, 35, took to social media where she said her family were “devastated” and opened up on her ‘guilt’.
Laura, who featured on Married At First Sight in 2023, wrote: “I’ve sat with this for weeks, not knowing how to find the words. A few weeks ago, my family lost my stepdad, Rich – very suddenly to cancer. It has left my family devastated.”
She also opened up about not being as close in recent years, which has led to feelings of guilt. She said: “That’s a guilt I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and right now, it feels very heavy.”

Laura also reflected on the loss of her biological father, who lost his life to cancer a few years earlier. She said: “Lots of you know that I lost my dad to cancer, the same age as my half-sister is now. It feels as though sometimes, life plays out the most painful patterns.”
Sharing a heartfelt tribute to her stepfather, Rich, she added: “He came into my life over 20 years ago and brought light and laughter into our family when we really needed it. I hope that where you are now, you are at peace and out of pain, and that West Ham are winning every match they play!”
Laura ended the post by announcing a temporary break from social media as she ‘doesn’t know’ how to ‘show up’ for her followers. She said: “I don’t know how to show up online for you guys at the minute and therefore I am going to take a break. Sometimes this world feels so painful, so I’m sending an enormous amount of love to anyone struggling.”
This follows after Laura opened up toThe Sun and shared another difficult chapter in her life. In 2016, at the age of 26, Laura underwent a medical abortion after unexpectedly learning she was nearly eight months pregnant.
The pregnancy had gone undetected, and during that time, she had been taking a powerful acne medication—unaware that it posed a serious risk. Doctors informed her that the drug could cause severe birth defects and “extreme” harm.
“It was very difficult because I went from not thinking I was pregnant to being seven months pregnant, to then having a very prolonged abortion,” she told The Sun. “I was so far gone.”
After the procedure, Laura returned home to find her body responding as though she had given birth. “My milk came in, which, as you can imagine, was just really hard to deal with,” she recalled. “I hunkered down at home for weeks and didn’t talk to anyone.”
Laura, who is now in a happy relationship with Hayden Clottey, also revealed that she has been put off having children because she “doesn’t want to be reminded of what happened in 2016”.
