Marc Guehi's behaviour in England training says it all after Liverpool transfer collapse

Send Push

Marc Guehi was straight back in training with England less than 48 hours after his move to Liverpool collapsed.

Crystal Palace captain Guehi was all laughs and smiles as he prepared for the England double header with Andorra and Serbia in their World Cup qualifiers. Guehi even went for a medical at Liverpool after a £35m deal was agreed for him to move to the champions.

But the deal fell through when Palace could not get enough in terms of defensive reinforcements but they stand to lose him for free next summer when his contract expires.

England boss Thomas Tuchel actually gave the whole squad Monday off for deadline day as he admitted many would have their minds on potential transfers.

"It is one reason why we called the players up on Tuesday, to not have all these mixed emotions," Tuchel said. "They come on Tuesday, so they have one day off.

"We also didn't want to have that week too long. We wanted to streamline it towards the Saturday game and start on the Tuesday afternoon with training.

"But one part of the decision was also to give them the freedom to sort out maybe their transfer issues and the transfer subjects that come their way.

"So, yeah, of course we're interested. We need to know where we have to drive on the weekend."

They reported up on Tuesday and now have the rest of the week to prepare for the World Cup qualifying double header.

Guehi is a key member of Tuchel’s World Cup plans and is set to play in the next week as they face Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday and travel to Belgrade next Tuesday.

England had all 25 players in training at St George’s Park while u-20s pair Law McCabe and Zach Abbott were promoted to work with the seniors.
