Palghar, Maharashtra: A couple on a sightseeing trip to Arnala Fort Beach in Virar West tragically drowned, police reported. The deceased have been identified as Shivaji Shinde (48) and Rangita Shinde (42), residents of Virar East.
Arnala Fort, located in Virar West, is a popular tourist destination attracting visitors from various regions. On Saturday evening, the couple were seen touring the fort area. Locals noted their presence in the area even as evening fell.
However, a shockwave went through the community on Sunday morning around 9:30 am when two unidentified bodies were discovered on the beach. Villagers immediately informed the Arnala Coastal Police. Upon receiving the information, police promptly arrived at the scene, conducted an inquest, took possession of the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.

Their relatives informed the police that the couple had left home stating they were going for darshan (a religious viewing) at Vajreshwari.
The Arnala Coastal Police Station has registered a case of accidental death. Authorities are currently investigating whether the couple drowned accidentally or committed suicide.
