Railways hikes fares: From AC to express trains, here's how much more you'll pay from July 1

Starting July 1, Indian Railways will slightly increase fares for certain train passengers, according to an ET source. The revised rates will mainly affect long-distance travellers, while daily and short-distance commuters will see no major changes.

Who Will Not Be Affected?
If you travel by local trains or hold a Monthly Season Ticket (MST), don’t worry, your fare remains the same.
Also, if you’re travelling in ordinary second class for a distance up to 500 km, there will be no increase.

Why the Hike?
This is the first fare hike in several years. The change is being introduced to balance the increasing cost of operations and improve passenger facilities, though the Railway Ministry has not released an official statement yet.
