Srinagar: Jailed Lok Sabha member from Baramulla constituency of north Kashmir, Engineer Rashid, has alleged that he escaped a murderous assault from some inmates of Tihar jail and stated that there is a sinister plot going on in jail against him and some other Kashmiri inmates.
The Awami Ittehad Party of Rashid has expressed deep concern and outrage over the revelations made by the incarcerated Lok Sabha MP during his recent legal meeting with his counsel, advocate Javeed Hubbi. AIP has demanded an independent probe into these allegations. It claimed Rashid has informed that male eunuchs with a medical history of HIV are put in the same barracks to provoke and attack to create hostile environments.
"Rashid had a narrow escape when a group of male eunuch inmates together pushed and threw a gate on him. It was a miraculous escape. Had it hit directly, it could have been fatal. This is nothing short of a deliberate attempt to physically harm him," Hubbi said.
The Lok Sabha MP has shared with his lawyer that "Tihar Jail authorities have devised new methods to harass Kashmiri prisoners by deliberately lodging male eunuchs with them inside barracks, who are encouraged to provoke, attack and create a hostile environment".
According to Rashid's account, Kashmiri inmates including Ayoub Pathan of Beerwah, Bilal Mir of Qamarwari and Amir Gojri of Srinagar were first attacked by these male eunuchs while Arshid Tanch of Kupwara was also subjected to humiliation. "The harassment crosses all limits whenever Kashmiris begin their Namaz (prayers), with deliberate attempts made to disturb and provoke them," read the AIP communication.
