The United States has intensified enforcement of its immigration laws, with its embassy in India reiterating that individuals who enter the country illegally will face detention, deportation, and permanent consequences on future visa eligibility.
In a statement posted Tuesday on the official X handle of the US Embassy in India, the mission said, “The United States has increased enforcement of immigration laws and removal of illegal aliens. Illegal entry into the United States will lead to detention, deportation, and permanent consequences for future visa eligibility.”
The statement further warned that “those who enter the United States illegally will face jail time and deportation. Embarking on a costly and dangerous journey will land you in jail or back in your homeland with a permanent mark on your record.”
This development follows recent immigration enforcement actions carried out in Los Angeles under the Trump administration’s policy framework, signalling a broader crackdown on unlawful migration.
Earlier, the embassy had advised all applicants for F, M, or J non-immigrant visas to make their social media profiles public. The requirement, it said, is part of efforts to verify applicants’ identity and eligibility under US immigration law. The post also reiterated that since 2019, visa applicants have been required to provide their social media identifiers on both immigrant and non-immigrant visa forms.
The embassy had earlier stated that a visa to the United States is “a privilege, not a right” and emphasized that visa screening continues even after issuance. “Authorities may revoke a visa if one breaks the law,” it said.
In addition, the embassy warned that individuals who engage in illegal activities, including drug use, while holding a student or visitor visa may be disqualified from obtaining a US visa in the future.
In another message issued on June 16, the embassy said the United States “will not tolerate those who facilitate illegal and mass immigration to the US.” It added that Washington has established new visa restrictions targeting foreign government officials and others involved in supporting such activities.
The series of advisories signals a firm stand by US authorities against illegal immigration and visa fraud. The embassy has consistently conveyed that while legitimate travellers are welcome, violations of immigration rules will have serious consequences.
