Himachal Pradesh University will allow students to pursue two degrees or diploma courses with degrees simultaneously from this academic session. This step has been taken in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). The university has notified the relevant rules for this so that now students will be able to take admission in various academic programs simultaneously. However, any other degree or diploma course along with a PhD will not be allowed.
According to the new rules, students will have to give an affidavit to the Controller of Examinations to be admitted to the course at HPU or other universities. Apart from this, it will be mandatory for the students to be registered with the National Academic Depository (NAD) and Academic Bank of Credit (ABC). This facility will apply to the students of PG-Professional and affiliated degree colleges operating on the campus of HPU. HPU Dean of Studies Prof. BK Shivram said that now the students will have the freedom to take admission in any faculty-related course, provided they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria.
Students can also pursue one degree in regular mode and the other degree in online or distance education mode. Both the courses should not be done at the same time so that there is no clash in the timetable. Apart from this, students can also pursue one degree from one university and the other degree from another university provided the academic quality and recognition of both the universities is determined by UGC. The university has also clarified that no other course can be selected along with the PhD program.
